Site-specific installation: larch wood, ash branches, rope and tree
Artistic Residency Case Sparse, Malonno (Bs)
"Monica Carrera’s work starts from the medicine man of the Andes, a figure who gets his beneficial powers once he passes the test of being buried, unable to move for an entire night: only if he overcomes his fears can he consider himself a healer. The focus of the artist’s work is on the desire to investigate the relationship between body and land; the act of “being buried” goes beyond the notion of death without denying it, thought it is given new potential that disassembles its straightforwardness: motion.
Sitting on a swing underground arouses anxiety, disorientation, and fear. But, once the unpleasant feeling passes, the body and the mind get used to the situation and sit down together.
Only in this position you could grant a new, unexpected and unprecedented view: the panorama of the valley seen from the ground level".
